Decisions decided… almost.

So I settled on using one camera, the camera being the Leica Standard. Everything’s sorted out.

Almost.

As a self-confessed sufferer of G.A.S., I had a feeling it wouldn’t be long before the “Using only brand X” attitude would collapse. And it did… yesterday.

Wandering around a carboot sale, trying to pluck a bargain out of the extortion rackets being offered, I stumbled across an SLR (n)ever-ready case. Battered. Expecting the worse, the case was opened.

The name “Olympus” was seen. Expecting the usual OM-10, minus a manual adapter, I looked on the top-plate.

OM-1. My interest was aroused, but plans of “Put the camera back, it’s an SLR” were heard in my head. The front nose of the case was removed.

50mm… yep… f/1.4..? Ok, this thing’s going to be out of my pricerange, but give it a few shots anyway, the shutter’s bound to not fire right.

B, 30, 500. The shutter sounded as expected. One problem, no rewind crank. As if that’s hindered me with rangefinders though, and eBay surely has some “parts only” sales of these. Look through the viewfinder, no real signs of yellowing of age. Ok, I’m looking at a bargain of around £50 here… well beyond what the moths have left in my wallet. Ask the price.

£5!? Why was the seller so unsure? No problem, no questions, no haggling, dig the £5 out!

Ah, there’s more bits with it… filters… two things in boxes… a lens case to carry another lens… a flashgun bracket… and it all goes in that bag?

So, one more camera system. One more SLR. One more mechanical camera. And I can see how people like these OM-1 cameras… simple to use, nothing technical behind them. As all cameras should be.

I might be able to part with the bag, if I give someone another £5 for it.
