Life update, pt2…

Well, that’s the first time I’ve struggled for a title for a post. I know what this post’s about, but it’s not on just one subject. It can also be tied together on one subject though, so… hmm.

As always, the best place to start is at the beginning…

As the title suggests, it’s essentially a life update. So, here goes.

I’ve landed myself a job! Finally! After almost a year of constant searching, countless employment agencies saying “We’ll pass your details on” or “We’ll let you know”, and various interviews for various jobs, I’ve got myself a part-time job as a sales assistant. And it’s not related to photography either, which is a good thing.

Back in my days as a YTS thingy, I worked in a camera shop, and realised what was meant by “working in a sweet shop”. Too much camera gear being faced on a daily basis, my interest was nearly killed.

Change of subject here. I read “everything2″ that Leica cameras are for serious photographers. Like Wikipedia, “Everything2″ is user-contributed information. Unlike Wikipedia, “Everything2″ can have some bizarre entries… the daftest I’ve seen as yet was “My microwave can stop time, because it says it on a button”.

I digress.

So, someone thinks serious photographers get to use, or concentrate on using, Leica equipment.

I own two Leicas, therefore I’m a serious photographer..?

Not as far as I know. A hobbyist, yes. An amateur, definitely. Sometimes I’m keen on photography, sometimes I couldn’t be bothered to even maul with photos. So… serious?

As far as I understand, I’m not.

So, do I take professional photos?

Jumping subject again, do I take professional photos? I was asked that question after the manageress had given me the sales assistant job. I tried to say that I’m only an amateur, but she was dead set on seeing if I took professional photos. I had to answer that I had a digital camera. She seemed happy with that answer.

And if I’d have mentioned that I’ve done my own d&p in the past, and still enjoy using Leica rangefinder cameras..? Ye gods!

So, that’s it so far. It’s been a long while since my last update, but things are starting to look brighter now. Time for some photos.

Have fun on your new job. What is it you are gonna sell? Fish? Vacuum cleaners?

    Greetings your IRC friends :)
