I’ve seen one too many razor-sharp photo!
And I’ve just caught myself thinking, “Sharpen… unsharp mask… must produce sharp…”
Ok, guilty as charged. After I’d started using my DSLR again, I’ve been sharpening my photos… as meagre and output as it was… like a looney. Each photo had to be sharp… no signs of any softness in the photo! None whatsoever!
I’ve just read a thread in the Rangefinder forum, regarding Leica Summitar lenses, and how such lenses produce an unsharp in-focus photo from around f/s to about f/4, and sharp photos from there on down to f/16.
Prior to reading this thread, I scanned some more photos from my 4-day visit back to Bolton, and had set about doing the usual “crop/resize/clone out scanner dust/tone image”. The “sharpen/unsharp mask” stage hadn’t been done, as the resulting photos look sharp enough anyway, there was no need for further sharpening.
So… must remember… impact… not image.
Cue the photos… all three of them!
